xySpark

University of Leeds Project

Background

Starting as a 2 week work experience placement in 2011, I began working with the Cellular Cardiology Research Group at the University of Leeds, with the aim of developing a program for the detection and analysis of Ca2+ release events in x-y-t confocal image sequences.

Project

I was the soul programmer on the project. Programs existed for similar analysis of x-t images, however, at the time no such programs existed x-y-t image sequences as the hardware required to produce them was relatively new. It was decided that the program should be written as a plugin for the open-source image analysis suite ImageJ. I continued to work on the project in my spare time and in February 2014 the program was released along with my first paper.
